Search for Light

Image
This piece is called "Search for Light." The uppermost branch stretches out in a search for the sun's warmth and energy.  For me this is a metaphor for our human desire to find significance and truth.  My personal search for truth has found a place to rest - a place in the shade of an ancient tree on an ancient hill - the of the skull - and the shade of a cross. This piece is on an amazing rock - Quartz and Granite.

Tangle of Relationship

Image
Hi Everyone.  I am glad this piece is finally done!  It took forever.   I started working on it in 2022 and it has been dragging along.  The rock is from Kingsport Nova Scotia.  It was chosen by my daughter who saw beauty in it.   I called it "Tangle of Relationship" because it tells the story of three people - one outsider - weeping like a willow.  Relationships can be messy and complicated.

A small tree (unloved?)

Image
There isn't much to say about this piece.  I actually find this tree a little boring.  I hope someone will like it.  It isn't fun being someone nobody likes.  It is a good thing this tree isn't alive.

Flat Granite Stance

Image
Smallish tree on a flat granite stone.  I found the stone in the Washago area.  We were looking for some waterfalls in the area.  We found a small walking trail and on the trail I found this stone.

A Smalley - "Embracing Roots"

Image
Embracing Roots is another piece that went to Ron and Diane C. It was their second pick.  It looks a little like the roots are hugging the stone - a secure embrace.  This tree also has a prominent branch that has died.  Life involves loss - but continued perseverance.

Another little one: Rocking Lovely (Sometimes I am not sure how I come up with the names!)

This tree was give to some friends in our church (Emmanuel Barrie) - Ron and Diane C.  I hope they enjoy many years of this tree.  They chose it because the rock was so beautiful.  I found the rock on the beaches of Kincardine. Boiler Beach, Kincardine

Pieces Finished: "Moyogi Standing"

Image
The Moyogi Bonsai style gives the tree a look of joyful dancing.  Its trunk is curved but balanced.  This is my favorite style. I hope you enjoy. Sincerely, David.

Enjoying them

A perk to doing the art is that you get to enjoy it.

Works in process

Image
Hi all, Here are some upcoming pieces that are in the process of being finished.  The top two just need to be oxidized and then lacquered.  The third piece has been soldered.  The fourth and largest piece is at the first stage of shaping the trunk.  Looking forward to seeing these finished pieces.  The last pic shows the baby trees - still speaking though their voice might be small.
